Toenail reconstruction is a cosmetic treatment that uses a specialist flexible gel to improve the appearance of a selected damaged, incomplete or misshapen toenail. It does not treat the underlying cause and is not suitable for every nail.

Before treatment, the podiatrist will assess the nail and surrounding skin. Active infection, significant inflammation, an open wound or another concern may need treatment before reconstruction is considered.

The reconstructed nail is temporary and grows forward with the natural nail. It may need trimming, maintenance, replacement or removal. Longevity varies with nail growth, footwear, activity and the condition of the underlying nail.
